Source: McCain & Co. PR

Nashville, Tenn. (May 14, 2012) - Elk Lake Publishing has announced the release of Mike McCormick’s Man Quest: Leading Teenage Boys Into Manhood, a step-by-step approach for fathers and male mentors guiding boys as they transform into men of courage, honor and integrity. The book is being distributed exclusively to the CBA market through New Day Christian Distributors.

In Man Quest, McCormick has captured six essential guideposts designed to bring fathers and sons together on a life-changing spiritual quest. Dads (or mentors) work through interactive questions, movie nights, and creative activities with boys. Man Quest concludes with a chapter titled “Rugged Truths Every Man Must Know,” a dose of tough love that pulls no punches. The workbook-style publication offers hands-on help, teaching tips, and complete agendas for celebration weekends to make the journey to manhood fulfilling and fun.

“Just about every culture on the planet actively teaches their teenage boys what it means to be a man, with Western society being the most notable exception,” McCormick says. “Most men have an innate hunger to teach boys the true essence of manhood but just don’t know where to start or what to say. Man Quest provides a perfect starting point for an adult man to engage a son (or mentee) in the most pivotal discussion of his life — what it truly means to be a man.”

The idea for Man Quest stemmed from an incident that occurred one afternoon when McCormick’s 12-year old son came home and asked if he could see a new movie his friends recommended. The film, titled The Hangover, was a popular R-rated movie about a group of four buddies who go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party and a weekend of boozing, gambling, strippers and drugs. McCormick realized that regardless of his efforts to teach his son what it means to be a man, the culture was having a strong influence as well.

When the author sat down to write a clear and compelling definition of what it means to be a man, he found he didn’t really have one himself. After some reading and research, McCormick came up with six guideposts toward manhood to share with his son: accept responsibility, lead courageously, pretend about nothing, journey with God, protect your heart, and engage in deep and meaningful relationships. He searched for a resource book that would help dads communicate the essence of manhood to their teenage sons and couldn’t find one, which inspired him to create a workbook to help fathers articulate what it truly means to be a man. After McCormick shared his workbook during a “Man Quest” journey with 12 father/son pairs, including himself and his own son, he felt compelled to share it with others.

“Dads can’t afford to be complacent in our society. If you’re not actively talking to your teenage son about what it truly means to be a man, then his concept of masculinity is being warped by the cultural definition of money, sex and power,” McCormick says. “Your window of influence with your son is smaller than you think and his masculine mindset is being adversely shaped right now. It’s not the responsibility of your church, school or youth group to teach your son the essence of manhood — it’s the father’s role to pass it on. Heck, if you don’t have a teenage son yourself, there are plenty of young boys out there without a father who need a mentor to show them the way. Our boys are dying for a real and true definition of what it really means to be a man!”

The guiding Scripture for Man Quest, McCormick says, is I Corinthians 13:11-12: “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”

“Elk Lake Publishing, dedicated to ‘publishing the positive,’ is excited to release the book Man Quest: Leading Teenage Boys Into Manhood, authored by Mike McCormick,” says Karl Nilsson, managing editor of Elk Lake. “Diverse cultures throughout the world have specific rituals and ceremonies designed for young boys to grow into men. In the media-dominated U.S., we too often leave it up to the internet or television to teach our boys the way to manhood. Man Quest changes all that in a positive, inspirational book that will benefit fathers and sons for generations to come.”

NEWS SOURCE: Turning Point Media
May 9, 2012

MINNEAPOLIS—Go Fish, longtime leading providers of music and resources for families and children, will be impacting hundreds of thousands this summer through their live performances and Vacation Bible School (VBS) curriculum. Go Fish will be bringing their unique concert experience for families to major markets across the country, including several music festivals. In addition, more than 3,000 churches are slated to use the Praise VBS program, reaching an estimated 300,000 children. Praise was created by Go Fish and features music by the group, along with GFK Records labelmate Denver & The Mile High Orchestra.

Go Fish and band will kick off their full summer with a hometown appearance at the KTIS Joyful Noise Family Fest 2012 in Minneapolis-St. Paul June 9. The group will also travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma; Charlotte, North Carolina; the Quad Cities (Iowa/Illinois); Lansing, Michigan; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Montgomery, Alabama; among other locations, before wrapping up the season September 2 with an appearance at the 2012 LifeLight South Dakota Festival in Sioux Falls. For a full concert schedule, visit www.gofishguys.com.

“We are truly amazed at how God continues to grow the ministry of Go Fish,” said Jamie Statema, Go Fish founding member. “When families come out to see our concerts this summer, we have some exciting surprises in store and plan on premiering new music, as well as ‘revamping’ some of our most-requested songs from previous tours. We are also excited that so many churches will be utilizing our Praise VBS this summer; it is a privilege to help equip the local church as they strive to impact the next generation for Christ.”

Following the recent departure of group member Andy Selness, Go Fish will perform as a duo comprised of Statema and longtime member Jason Folkmann. “Andy has been an important part of the growth and ministry of Go Fish and we will miss him,” Statema said. “We respect his decision to move on to other opportunities and to be able to spend more time with his family. Jason and I are excited to partner with our three amazing band members to give families our best show yet. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for Go Fish in the seasons ahead.”

Go Fish is currently in the studio recording a follow-up to their acclaimed 2010 project, Kickin’ It Old School. The group will also be releasing a four-week Christmas curriculum for elementary students this year, as well as beginning production on an all-new VBS for 2013.

Since 2003, Go Fish has been one of the leading providers of family entertainment and children’s ministry resources. They have released seven successful recordings on their own GFK Records imprint: Splash, Superstar, Snooze, Snazzy, Party Like A Preschooler, Kickin’ It Old School and Christmas With A Capital ‘C’, along with the DVDs Showtime, Let’s Sing, Kickin’ It Old School and Praise. Go Fish concert appearances have drawn capacity crowds to churches, theatres and arenas across the country, while their VBS curriculum, including Backstage With The Bible and Kickin’ It Old School, has been utilized by more than 6,000 churches around the world.

“At Flowerpot Press, we are really excited to be working with Syntax to get our content out to more consumers,” says Managing Partner Pat Hayes. “In addition to an expansive children’s book range, we own hundreds of really fun, entertaining kid’s songs. As a company still very focused on physical product, it is great to find a partner who will take the ball and run with it in the digital world. It allows us to participate in what is obviously a growing market without losing focus on our core business.”

Flowerpot Press, based in both Ontario, Canada and Franklin, Tenn., gets the advantage of growing its brand with Syntax’s wide variety of partners that include iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and others.

“I’m really excited about the addition of Flowerpot,” Syntax CEO Tim Trudeau says. “They are not a record label and will not be limited to the same old mindset that has plagued the ever-changing music business. They have a knack for creating unique and exciting products that are extremely successful in the physical space. I look forward to converting that same innovation into the digital market while expanding their reach and their clientele.”

The first release through this strategic partnership will be 150 Songs 4 Kids, an affordable six-disc compilation. At select retailers, 150 Songs 4 Kids also will include a special digi-booklet complete with lyrics.

Publisher Anne Hayes says, “Flowerpot loves kids’ product and kids love Flowerpot. Since its launch in 2005, the Flowerpot Press range of books, music, and spoken word have sold tens of millions of units and been enjoyed by kids around the world. With a fun, creative, energy that begins in the corporate culture and ends in high value, highly entertaining products for consumers, Flowerpot Press really is: ‘Planting the seeds that help young minds grow.’”

DEBUTS MAY 8, HELP FOR PRESSURED PARENTS
TheMoatBlog.com
Over-Involved Parents, Under-Prepared Kids: One Mom Takes Action

Cleaning House—A Mom’s 12-Month Experiment to Rid Her Home of Youth Entitlement debuts in stores nationwide and online Tuesday, May 8, from author Kay Wills Wyma and WaterBrook Press, a division of Random House.

SYNOPSIS
Raising five kids in the “self-esteem generation,” Kay Wyma caught a disturbing trend in her home: as the workload of a big family increased with growing children, it seemed she was bearing the load . . . and her kids weren’t learning vital skills needed to successfully leave the nest. And so began her 12-month experiment to build real self-esteem based on building their competence and confidence. The Cleaning House experiment taught the Wyma kids practical skills for home life (doing laundry!), and vital skills for all of life (the value of work, working well with others). A perfect success? Of course not, but a journey you’ll want to take with the Wymas, full of Kay’s trademark wit and wisdom. As Kay says, “Here’s to seeing what can happen when we tell our kids, ‘I believe in you, and I’m going to prove it by putting you to work.’”

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

“At last! Enlightenment about entitlement in our kids—and not just what it is, but also what to do about it.” Elisa Morgan, president emerita of MOPS International, publisher of FullFill magazine

“. . . a one-way ticket to reality about responsibility.” Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and host of Fox TV’s Huckabee

“A beautifully told story and a practical guide to parenting in today’s complex world.” Michael Gurian, New York Times best-selling author of The Wonder of Boys and The Wonder of Girls

“Laugh-out-loud moments for parents who want to lovingly change the hearts and future of their overly indulged children.” Chuck Bentley, CEO Crown Financial Ministries

ENTITLEMENT FACTS
Research and reporting point to the trends of parental over-involvement and kids’ under-preparedness. A few examples.

Almost 83 percent of adults say young people feel more entitled than in years past.

31 percent of parents send potential employers resumes on behalf of their children.

The Wall Street Journal said, “Contemporary children have very little experience with the kinds of tasks that they’ll have to perform as grown-ups.”

FRANKLIN, TN (May 1, 2012) — Big Idea Entertainment, a leading studio and producer of children’s and family programming, characters and brands, announced today they will release a brand-new DVD title, VeggieTales®: The Penniless Princess-God’s Little Girl, on August 11 and August 14, 2012 in Christian and general market stores respectively. This title follows the release of the top-selling VeggieTales®: Sweetpea Beauty-A Girl After God’s Own Heart and VeggieTales®: Princess & the Pop Star, both of which featured lessons of specific interest to young girls.

The DVD’s story is based on the children’s book, A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and helps to teach an important lesson about knowing your own true worth inspired by Philippians 4:8, as well as trusting God, no matter what happens in life, based on Romans 8:39. VeggieTales: The Penniless Princess-God’s Little Girl includes plenty of engaging and fun music fit for families, with the all-new Silly Song “Best Friends Forever” and the featured song “No Matter What,” both in sing-along versions in the DVD bonus features.
Advertising, Radio, TV and Online Support
The title’s marketing and advertising campaign includes extensive print, television, radio, and online advertising, as well as social media promotions on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube and interactions with mom and parenting bloggers. The Rizers released their second album, Rise Up, in October 2011 featuring ten brand new, upbeat scripture songs to teach kids God’s Word while having fun rocking to the tunes. Last year families were introduced to the upbeat, kid-friendly animated group The Rizers, and since then they have made a huge wave with parents, kids and children’s ministers. The Rizers present culturally relevant music instilling a love for Jesus Christ and His Word through scripture memory, praise and worship.

Their debut, “Meet The Rizers,” released on iTunes and AmazonMP3 in 2010 and peaked at No. 1 on AmazonMP3.com (Children’s Music), No. 6 (Christian & Gospel), as well as No. 4 on iTunes (Kids Music). The project was also included in the Dove-nomination ballot this year. Parents, children, media and bloggers have been raving about this fun-filled music praising God with coverage in the likes of ParentLife, Foursquare.org, The Resurgence as well as featured on many top kids ministry sites.

<![endif]-->SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – April 25, 2012 – Dr. James Dobson, now heading Family Talk radio and known for bestsellers such as The Strong-Willed Child, Dare to Discipline and Bringing Up Boys—will restore and expand his legendary 1978 film series on parenting (more than a third of the U.S. population saw it at the time), with new segments filmed May 11-12 and 18-19 at a two-weekend conference free and open to the public called BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY.

“My son, Ryan, at the time a new dad, picked up a video and watched it one night,” Dobson said, describing the genesis of the new series. “He phoned me, and, after a few laughs about the sideburns and big eyeglasses, he said, ‘Dad, this is what parents are wanting right now!’”

Ryan’s plea was far from the first, and the Dobson team with producer David Nixon began to consider which segments to retain and what to update and add. In 1978 segments about dealing with young children, for example, the child psychologist speaks from the front lines of raising Ryan and Danae, at the time young children in the Dobson household (she inspired The Strong-Willed Child!). That one-of-a-kind footage will be restored and reframed. (“John Wickham, then Army chief of staff, was so taken with the Fathering film, he made it required viewing for soldiers around the world,” Dobson recalls.)

In the new Legacy session, one of five new titles to be presented at the San Diego conference, Dobson traces four generations in his family to examine the enduring influence of a single generation.

“Mixing the immediacy of youth and the perspective of age from one man’s long career is a rich capstone,” said Robert Wolgemuth, BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY executive producer and, interestingly, one of the marketers of the original film series at Word Publishers. “We’ve specially invited audience members from the original San Antonio event because that conference was a once-in-a-generation moment, and this is too.”

“Faces in the crowd in that San Antonio screening were minor celebrities for two decades,” Wolgemuth added, laughing.

Author of more than 30 books, Dr. Dobson currently heads Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk, a nonprofit ministry and radio program. For 14 years, he was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine and was on the attending staff of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for 17 years. He earned his doctorate in child development from USC. He founded and is chair emeritus of Focus on the Family.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.

“I find dads all across America asking for help,” says Dr. Lewis. “They want to be good fathers, but often they need support and creative ideas; this is what we are offering.”

The Raising a Modern-Day Knight “Dad App” is a free download, with an available in-app purchase upgrade version (for the one-time fee of $4.99) which, on a monthly basis, features a 3-5 minute video from Lewis and other well-known dads. This unique dad app provides parenting tips, proactive advice, encouraging messages, and monthly “Dad Challenges” that equip fathers for parenting well. This hands-on app aims to give men confidence, strength and a practical strategy to raise their sons into a noble and authentic manhood.

The free RMDK app’s focus is to help dads capture key moments in a son’s life. Its platform creates a one-of-a-kind way for fathers to record special father-son times by taking pictures and writing personal heart-to-heart notes to their sons.

The RMDK in-app upgrade allows fathers to participate in the monthly RMDK “Dad Challenge.” This upgrade offers creative ideas and practical applications using high-impact video content to help dads better connect with their sons. The in-app upgrade also gives access to the creative ideas of other dads through the “Big Wins” page. In addition, the “Scorecard” section helps users keep track of their completed “Dad Challenges.”

“Becoming a great dad doesn’t just happen,” says Lewis. “Great fatherhood is made; it’s an acquired skill drawn from the wisdom of others.”
